Medical Records Specialist

Working in accordance with established policies and procedures and under the direction and Director of Nursing. This person is responsible for the proper recording, filing, organizing and upkeep of the Health Center medical records.

Responsibilities
  • Review physician telephone and admission orders daily.

  • Photocopy orders, date each copy and mail orders to the physicians for their signature. Track and/or resend as necessary being certain to maintain a dated copy with the resend date.

  • Forward copy of material and track when information is sent to a Provider.

  • Prior to admission, assembles charts with resident’s assigned medical record number, name, physician’s name, DNR status and any other information pertinent to the resident.

  • Helps maintain resident charts in an orderly manner, thins charts per community policy and is familiar with achieved records procedure.

  • Maintains complete, current and discharged residents’ medical records and updates electronic inventory spreadsheet in the discharge file in the computer.

  • Attend monthly In-Service meetings.

  • Contributes to a positive, healthy and safe work environment.

Details

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-3 years experience in medical records.
